The Farewell Tour

The Final Stop that is often forgotten

Dick Allen

Few Remember that Dick Allen signed with the Oakland A's for the 1977 season, only to retire in June. Although best known for his time in Philly & Chicago, Allen also spent time in LA & St Louis. He finally was elected to Cooperstown which was long overdue & unfortunately after his passing.

Don Sutton

Of course we all know that Don Sutton had most of his success with the Dodgers. He spent the first 15 years of his Hall of Fame career there. But who remembers the 43 year old Sutton making 16 starts for the 1989 Dodgers during his Farewell Tour?

Phil Niekro

Phil Niekro looks like he's 60 years old making his final MLB start for the team he spent the majority of his career with, the Atlanta Braves. The Blue Jays released Knucksie in time for him to have his Farewell Tour with the team that made him a Hall of Famer. He made one start for the 1987 Braves at the end of the season before retiring. It was beautiful!

Steve Carlton

Although he is one of the best left handed pitchers of all time, Steve Carlton bounced around at the end of his career. Most have forgotten his time with the Giants, White Sox, & Indians, his Farewell Tour was 4 games for the 1988 Twins. It was not pretty & we thankfully can forget his 16.76 ERA.

Eddie Murray

Even I didn't know that Eddie Murray's Farewell Tour was with the  Dodgers. Signed on August 20th, Murray batted nine times for the Dodgers after his release by the Angels. Yes, Murray played briefly with the Angels, after his second tour with the Orioles.

Tom Seaver

In 1986, Tom Seaver changed Sox for his Farewell Tour. Having little success with Chicago, he was traded to Boston for Steve "Pyscho" Lyons. He had moderate success in his half season in Beantown. Few realize that he reported to Spring Training with the Mets in 1987 in his attempt for one more season. Unfortunately, he didn't make the team!
