1975 Topps Gaylord Perry

As I'm sure you know by now, Gaylord Perry passed away just a short while ago. He was 84 years old when he passed. The funny thing about Perry is, he always looked so much older than he actually was. I'm thinking part of that is I was a young pre-teen/teen while he was active so a 40something year old man looked 100 to me.

What I most remember about Perry is of course the spit ball. I remember he came out against Pete Rose going into the HOF because of his gambling. I always wondered why it was okay for Perry to cheat by throwing an illegal pitch and go to the Hall of Fame but not for Rose. But that is a conversation for another day.

The 1975 Topps Perry card is my favorite of all of his cards. The 1975 design is my all time favorite design and I love the star they used for the All Star. And let's not forget the old school Cleveland "C" on his hat. This card doesn't make him look like he's in his 60s like so many other cards of his.

Each day we get older and older and we lose more players from our youth. It's getting more difficult with the passing of each one of them. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about that. I guess that is why it's so important for all of us to have our Sportscard Memories!
