Rest In Peace Jim Todd

ree

As a young baseball fan, there were certain logos I really liked. I loved the Milwaukee Brewers' ball and glove logo and the Seattle Mariners trident logo. I remember many players from the early days of the Mariners because I spent more time looking at their baseball cards than say Yankees and Dodgers players.

I don't remember Jim Todd as a pitcher. I never saw him throw a single baseball and his six year career didn't stand out. But I clearly remember his baseball card. So let's talk a little about Jim Todd.

He was a pretty solid reliever for parts of his career. He had a great season for the 1975 A's and decent single season for the Mariners in 1978. He would return to Oakland after the 1978 season for a farewell tour with the A's that didn't go so well.

One of the things I found cool about Todd's career was some of the players he was traded for. Names like Champ Summers, Pete Broberg and Joe Coleman stand out in my mind from the 70s, and all were traded for Jim Todd.

Players come and go these days. Some teams use 25 or more pitchers in a single season today. Back in the day of Jim Todd, there were far fewer which tells us that he was a pretty sold pitcher for multiple seasons. And for that reason, he will always be a Baseball Card Memory. Rest in Peace, Jim Todd!
