Rest In Peace Mike Greenwell

ree

One of the bigger named players to pass away in 2025 was former Boston Red Sox Outfielder Mike Greenwell. Passing at a way too young age of 62, Greenwell came up at the same time baseball card rookie cards exploded on the scene.

I remember buying as many 1987 Greenwell cards as I could as he was one of the many hot rookies of the time. I would buy his cards along with Billy Jo Robidoux, Mark Funderburk, BJ Surhoff and of course Jose Canseco. Although he was never a Hall of Fame caliber player, he could sure hit!

A lifetime .303 hitter, Greenwell hit .300 or better seven times in 12 seasons while only having one poor year at the plate where he hit .233. With exactly 1400 hits and 130 homeruns, he brought enough to the table to be remember for a very long time as a Baseball Card Memory. Rest in Peace, Mike.
