Rest in Peace Rod Nichols

When we start remembering players who passed away who debuted in 1988, it shows just how old I am. I remember pulling many Rod Nichols cards out of 1989 Topps baseball packs. I bought what seemed like a zillion packs of Topps baseball cards that year, or so it seemed!

Rod Nichols both started an relieved, all the while wearing really big, dated glasses! H didn't have a lot of success in the gig leagues but he had a pretty good season for the 1991 Indians. Anytime you have a WAR of 2.4 with a record of 2 wins and 11 losses, you had a better year than your statistics showed!

Nichols spent most of his career with bad Indians teams and had brief stints with both the Dodgers and the Braves. His career record was 11 wins and 31 losses yet had a fair ERA of 4.43. Not a bad number for a pitcher with a .262 lifetime win percentage.

The more players from the 1980s and 1990s we lose, the more difficult it is to realize just how old I am. For this reason, he will always be a Baseball Card Memory. Rest in Peace, Rod Nichols!
