While Sandy Alomar Sr was a marginal utility player throughout most of his career, he made a greater contribution to major league baseball...his two sons, Sandy Jr & Roberto. Alomar Sr passed away in 2025 and his indirect impact on major league baseball will live on forever.
Alomar Sr played an impressive 15 years in the big leagues while starting about half the time. He was a .245 hitter with little power but decent speed. He played for some bad teams like the Mets, White Sox & Angels during some of their difficult times. He did make the post-season with the 1976 Yankees but then retired after parts of two seasons with the lowly Texas Rangers.
In 1988, his son Roberto began his Hall of Fame career. A year later, his son Sandy Jr came into the league and had a solid career, spending parts of 20 seasons in the show, finally retiring at age 41 with a brief stint with the Mets.
The legacy of Sandy Alomar Sr will last forever and for that reason, he will always be a Baseball Card Memory. Rest in Peace, Sandy!
