We lost another player from my favorite baseball card set ever, the 1975 Topps set. Journeyman starter/reliever Steve Hargan passed away at age 83 on October 30, 2025.
I don't remember watching him pitch as I was quite young when he was an active player, but I do remember his baseball card. This happens a lot when players of his era pass. I don't remember them personally, but I remember collecting their baseball cards back in the day.
Hargan played for six teams during an impressive 12 seasons in the big leagues. He had some serious success with the mid 1960s Indians finishing three times with a WAR over 4.0. He became a journeyman right around the time this card came out. Hargan would hurl for Texas, Toronto & Atlanta in 1977 with his numbers showing it was pretty much the end of the line for him.
I was unaware until I looked it up that he was an original Toronto Blue Jay for a few months before being traded back to Texas in 1977. A month later, Texas would sell him to Atlanta which would be his final stop.
It's always tough for me when another player I remember passes away. But as I stated so many times, the older you get, the more often it happens. Rest In Peace Steve Hargan, you will always be a Baseball Card Memory to me!
