Rest In Peace Tommy Helms

We continue to remember major leagues we have lost in 2025 with 14 year veteran Tommy Helms. Playing multiple positions, Helms started for nine years for the Reds and Astros. He would finish off his career with a brief stint with the Pirates & Red Sox.
It's funny that I remember him mostly for his 1977 Topps Baseball card that features him with a team he never played for. The A's purchased him from the Pirates after the 1976 season ended. The A's would trade him back to the Pirates in spring training in a huge trade that included Phil "Scrap Iron" Garner, Tony Armas, Doug Bair, Rick Langford & more. It was a huge deal and I assume that Garner was the key to the trade, not Helms.
He managed the Reds briefly in 1988 & 1989 until the Reds decided to go with Lou Piniella. Sweet Lou would lead the Reds to the World Series Championship one year later Despite that, I will always remember Oakland A's legend Tommy Helms, which makes him a Baseball Card Memory. Rest in Peace Tommy!
